Become a True Non-Smoker

Are you ready to become the non-smoker you once were?

When you know that you’re ready to become a non-smoker I can help make that an effortless journey. That’s not about ‘should’ as in “I should stop smoking. My partner/friend/children/parents want me to give up”.
YOU have to know that it’s your desire, your goal. It’s not about giving up as in depriving yourself of something wonderful. It’s about reclaiming your right to freedom from that smoking cult you joined, without reading the fine print. I refer to the smoking cult because when you’re a smoker you are in a sort of sect, a faction where all the members believe certain things and keep those beliefs going.

I didn’t sign up for decades of smoking

Speaking of joining and becoming part of a sect or cult, one of my lovely clients said something that really resonated with me. He has recently become – to his delight and amazement – a person who no longer smokes and one who doesn’t miss smoking. After nearly forty years of smoking. A lot of effort went into maintaining his title of ‘smoker’. One of the things we talked about was the fact that he was only a young teenager when he started. The same age as his elder son is now. He’d be horrified if his son took up smoking but one of the things he said really struck a chord with both of us. He said; “you know, when I began this smoking thing, I didn’t know that I’d still be doing it in my fifties. I didn’t know I’d be jeopardising my health, wasting thousands of dollars and feeling like I couldn’t stop.” He paused then and looked at me to say: “Jeannette, I didn’t sign up for this. I’d never have started if I’d known. Never.”
It was one of my most satisfying times of helping someone become a non-smoker. He is saving a minimum of $150 to $200 a week and like many people who have returned to where they once belonged, he’s putting that money away for a special family treat.

So what do people who smoke believe?

We talked in our sessions about all the lies that smokers believe about their habit of smoking. First, they’re only at my rooms because they do want to stop smoking but most of them start out with two beliefs. First, that giving up or stopping will be so incredibly difficult that they won’t be able to do it. That belief ‘too difficult/I’ll fail is a core belief for the smoker’s sect. I’m happy to say that the way I work makes it very easy to quit when you’re ready. The second main belief is a strange one but understandable when we see how nicotine works on the subconscious mind. That second core belief takes a number of forms. Some even use words like:

  • Smoking is my friend. I really love smoking and I’m being pressured into quitting.
  • ‘Smoking is my go-to when I’m stressed.’
  • ‘It’s a break in a busy work day. It punctuates my day with break times.’
  • ‘I just can’t imagine having my first coffee without a cigarette’.
  • How can I have a beer without a cigarette? They go together like peaches and cream.
  • All very understandable when we realise how that nicotine poison has invaded your body and has been wrecking it for years but it doesn’t want to give up its hosting site. Nicotine with the help of all the members of the smoker group makes matches of things that are nothing like peaches or cream. Notice how films are again portraying people who smoke as the rebels. The ‘all you politically correct dudes are telling me what to do. I’ll do my own thing.’
All my clients know that as soon as they light up, their blood pressure goes up so does their heart rate. They know that smoking is stressful not relaxing. The drawback, the slow deep breathing that you do when smoking, that’s very relaxing so people put the things together. Just like they match the coffee and a cigarette, a beer and a cigarette. It’s all about the lies we tell ourselves about what how smoking is giving us a de-stressing break, a natural partner to have with coffee and beer. I ask my clients what I’m asking you here.

  • Have you ever had a coffee without a cigarette or a cigarette without a coffee?
  • Can you imagine doing deep, relaxing, breathing without a cigarette?
  • Do you know people who can do that?
  • Did you do that in the past, before nicotine came into your life?
  • It’s not about always being sensible either. Sometimes, we feel we deserve a treat and we splurge on all sorts of silly things. Great. As we say in Ireland – and elsewhere – “you’re a long time dead”. We have to enjoy things in life. Some people think that they’re enjoying smoking. And they do. Until they try to spend a whole plane trip or a whole day without their cigarettes. Then they know it’s not about enjoying the ciggie, it’s about feeding the nicotine parasite.
Once they come to realise that we, the client and I, are working together to loosen nicotine’s grip, my clients see that I’m part of their team rather than a goody two shoes non-smoker who sees them as weak.
Besides, I used to smoke. So I know the difference between trying to give up because I should and very easily and gently becoming someone for whom cigarette smoking is never attractive. I never, ever, think “oh I do miss a cigarette”. I don’t skateboard. I don’t think about that too much. At my age and lack of coordination I’m not about to start skateboarding. I don’t smoke either but that’s not how I define myself. I don’t smoke. That’s all.
Isn’t it interesting that we talked about a whole, complex, highly intelligent, humourous, generous human being as a smoker. Surely we’re all a lot more than some of the things we do. When you come to see me, you’ll start to see yourself as someone who is growing slowly or quickly out of smoking.
    No pressure.
You stop smoking when it’s just not something you want to do. I’ve yet to meet a person who smokes who can say that they enjoy every single cigarette they have. Maybe you’re that person. If you are, you probably smoke fewer than six cigarettes a day. That’s still 42 a week or 2,184 a year.

Hypnosis is your path to freedom from addiction

I don’t use a standard quit smoking hypnosis script. All my hypnosis sessions are individualised to you, to the person who is keen to become the non-smoker you once were. We discuss the contexts in which you smoke, what triggers you to think you NEED a cigarette. We talk about the benefits you think you get from smoking at the moment. As I’ve mentioned, many people think it’s calming, a stress reducer. Absolutely not.
Some of you have smoked for decades. Others started last year. It doesn’t matter how long the parasite nicotine has used your body as a host. Using hypnosis you can regain control of your life. Every habit, including smoking, is learned.

Remember when you first smoked? For most people it was a coughing, spluttering thing. You felt nauseated and dizzy. Maybe you wanted to be part of the crowd so you kept on with the smoking. You had to learn how to smoke. You can un-learn your smoking habit and learn other ways to stay calm, or other ways to reward yourself.

My Stop Smoking program costs less than two week’s of cigarettes

With my approach, you pay me $200 for our first 90min session. At the cost of cigarettes, that’s about a week’s supply. Then you pay nothing until you’ve been a non-smoker for one month. Comfortable in your new life as someone not feeding that nicotine parasite.

That may take only one hypnosis session, or many.
    No pressure.
    No rushing.
    When you’re ready.
Regardless of the number of sessions, the remaining cost is $200. So let me help you to become the non-smoker that you know you long to be. Some people suggest that I’m too trusting. That you’ll come along, become a non-smoker but you won’t bother paying me the remainder of my fee after a month.

I’ve never, ever, experienced that level of dishonesty in any of my clients.

They’re thrilled to be non-smokers. They’re amazed at how easy, how effortless, it was and they’re happy to pay the second $200 – either in a lump sum or in installments.

Of course for some of my clients, it takes quite a few return sessions to ease into being a non-smoker. That’s very different from being an ex-smoker, someone who quit but still wants to have a cigarette at a party, or before a job interview or after an argument. When you become a non-smoker you lose that craving. You don’t give smoking a second thought. It’s just not you anymore. Hurrah. You’ve said goodbye to that cocktail of poisonous substances.
